About this album… in my opinion, it could have been better. Dont get me wrong to all those die hard fans out there. Does this album have awesome riffs? Yes, Does it have awesome solos? Yes, does it have awesome drummings and bass lines? Yes, Does it have the awesomeness and snarling vocals of Mustaine? Yes.

To me I think this album sounds like what it would have been if Megadeth would of had an album between “Killing Is My Buisness” and “Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying?”. This album isn’t better than “Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying?” but still worth (as of all Megadeth album’s -maybe minus 2-)
a listen too. This album overall doesnt really have any faults -maybe to some though-. I think also if i’m not mistaken, the first Megadeth album to have good sound quality on its first release.

I dont want to keep talking or review about this album because i’ll feel like i’ll be repeating the sames words as in the last reviews. Instead i would like to talk about the lyrical content because to me this album shows how daves writes the music he wants to write about.

“Into the Lungs of Hell”, an instrumental, no singing but still a good instrumental.

“Set the World Afire”, exterminating life on this planet, that sounds brutal enough for me.(even though a lot of people have talked about that, this is one of the first songs to really talk about it and was also a good boost during the thrash metal movement of the ’80s because a lot of bands were talking about that during the mid to late ’80s)

“Anarchy in the U.K.”, a pretty good cover of one of Sex Pistols best songs.

“Mary Jane”, an awesome song(my favorite from the album) about a chick that got murdered by her father and how she haunts her grave. This song doesnt talk about marijuana about it does end at 4:20, maybe just an added pun for the song. The lyrics show the poetic side of Mustaine’s writing skill.

“502”, a song about speeding in the highway, exact lyrics from the song:

“Driving fast makes me feel good,
The speed of light trapped under my hood.
Breaking laws, ’cause there’s nothing to do.
Driving the interstate, stopped for a 502”
(note* 502 is a Los Angeles police traffic code for impaired driving)

“In My Darkest Hour”, a song tribute to the late Cliff Burton,
the song though is actually about Mustaine’s ex-wife

“Liar”, this song is dedicated to former lead guitarist Chris Poland about how he sold their music equipment for his drug addictions

“Hook In Mouth”, a song about how the PMRC limits musicians to say what they want.

Because of the conflicts that Poland and Samuelson caused. Mustaine fired them and hired new musicians to take their place. The new line up with Jeff Young and Chuck Behler is good and doesnt hold back the sound of what Megadeth is. Personally I think these two are really underated of their contributions to Megadeth. Youngs’s tone and solos sound nice and clean while Behler’s drumming is on beat and intense too (even though I prefer Samuelson more)

To sum it all up if your a Megadeth fan, your gonna like this album, if not, you might or you won’t all.

3.5/5 in some case it could be also 4/5 but to me and overall (i’m not trying to be biased) its a 3.5

One Response to “Megadeth – So Far, So Good… So What!”

  1. i agree with this review. its got some great stuff on it ( set the world afire is prob my favorite song) but my only cirticism of it is that the band didnt really progress to the next level on this album besides in my darkest hour. nonetheless and awesome album
